Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of therapy services do you offer?
We offer therapy to children, their parents, and young adults. Please read over our therapy overview page for detailed information.
Can we schedule a “meet and greet” to see if the provider is a good fit?
This is a common and understandable request! Our providers spend much of their day in session and regretfully do not have the availability to accommodate these calls. The process for adding providers to our team is highly selective, where only candidates with top talent are offered positions. We all strive to stay up to date with best practices so that our offerings are aligned with cutting-edge, evidence-based approaches. As part of this, we host a professional didactics program where we regularly have speakers who are nationally recognized experts present to us. We have the advantage of being able to collaborate within our team, where we value mentorship and peer consulation in an effort to offer high quality services that are consistent across our providers. Our clinicians are all warm, personable, and dedicated. We match providers to you only when there is a good fit to what you are requesting.
I’m interested in having you evaluate my child or teen. What does the evaluation process look like?
Our page on evaluations will help to demystify the process. We are happy to offer more specifics about what to expect when you reach out to us about the concerns that you have about your child. If your child is ages 3 to 6, please read our page on evaluations with young children.
What does therapy with young children look like?
Many challenges with young children are best addressed through work with the parents. It is often beneficial to include a brief developmental evaluation of your young child as part of the process. Please refer to our pages on therapy and parenting for additional information.
We encourage you to spend some time reading some of our publications to give you a window into how we approach helping kids and parents.
Your clinic is called Child and Teen Solutions, but do you work with young adults?
Yes! All of our providers accept referrals for young adult clients. We find that our developmental lens positions us well for work with young adults.
Do any of your providers prescribe medication?
No. We are happy to make recommendations to providers outside of CATS who prescribe medication.
Are we required to set up a certain number of sessions? Do we have to see you weekly?
The first step for any of our services is an intake session/ consultation. From there, your provider will customize the plan of recommended services. This is a collaborative process with you. While some clients opt to meet weekly, there are many situations that can be addressed with less frequent sessions. We do not operate in terms of service “packages” that require an upfront commitment on your part.
What do I need to know before I schedule a call with you?
We sometimes have a waitlist, especially for after-school time slots. We encourage you to consider parent coaching if you are hitting roadblocks in finding a therapist for your child or teen.
We are not in-network with insurance. Depending on your out-of-network benefits, a portion of the cost may be covered by your insurance (please review our Billing FAQ page).
When sharing information with us, keep in mind that we are mandated reporters, meaning that we are required by law to report suspected abuse or neglect of a minor or vulnerable adult. It is important to understand that our mandate holds even when we are communicating with persons who are not our clients.
Please note that our Client Care Coordinators are available to answer your questions about our services, scheduling, and logistics. They cannot answer questions that involve clinical issues that would require a response by our clinicians.
An inquiry to us, spot on our waitlist, or the offer of an appointment does not represent an agreement by us to work with you. Please understand that the determination of whether we can work with you involves many factors and is an ongoing process, even after services begin.
